More to Love

couture bridal seamstress + dressmaker

hi! I'm Courtney

For the love of COLOR.

If you’re feeling like you could use a bit of outside encouragement or permission to wear a colored wedding dress –
let me be that person.

I cannot overstate how much I love seeing brides wear color. Every thoughtful style choice a bride makes helps their attire feel more personal, unique and original. But something about wearing color hits different. Personally, I don’t feel like wearing a colored wedding dress is a cheeky thing to do or is simply bucking tradition. It just seems like an intentional decision to choose for oneself what your traditions will be.

And let me say here and now: it’s okay if you love a white dress! You’re not boring or unoriginal. But it’s also okay if you don’t. Queen Victoria unintentionally started this trend and if you want to step off that path then you should absolutely wear a blue or a pink or a yellow dress. Or suit. Or whatever!

Colored wedding dress or not – ultimately, I truly feel every bride should wear something that makes them happy and feel like an elevated, fancier version of themselves.

But let me stop arguing my case with my words and present you with the damning visuals!

I’ve gathered some of my favorite examples of beautifully saturated wedding dresses worn by real brides and they are seriously delicious. And though I didn’t personally work on any of these garments (well, except part of one) they are all lovely examples of how to incorporate color in your bridal attire. Please, please enjoy.

Georgia & Sam in Ballarat, AU in 2022 – photographed by Dream Cave

The dreamy ruffles, the beautiful waves in her hair, the full and colorful bouquet, the mauvy, rosy shade of pink…. It’s all so lovely.

Jay & Candice in NYC in 2019, photographed by Les Loups

Candice chose a chic and simple blue pantsuit for their City Hall ceremony. And a gorgeous pleated red dress for their reception afterward – and wow…does she make for a glowing bride in that red.

Hannah & Tai in VA in 2016, photographed by India Earl

Color and metallic? I am here for it. Not to mention the color and texture of her train and cuffs against the sequin material. And I love how photographically her dress both blended in and stood out amongst the woodsy scenery.

Coco & Mark in 2020 in Melbourne, AU, photographed by It’s Beautiful Here

Long or short, for an officiated or civil ceremony… pink is a winner. And Coco’s retro, mid-century style short suit dress only proves this. *Also, this seamstress just loves a long veil paired with a shorter garment.

Sarah & Daniel in NYC in 2021, photographed by Slyvie Rosokoff

While she did wear a short, white satin frock to City Hall, Sarah definitely got the color memo! Her incredible hair and bouquet kept her first look bright, and then she changed into an amazing lavender dress for her intimate reception! (That photo is ALL over Pinterest and I’ve been obsessed since the first moment I saw it.)

Amy & Philip in Switzerland in 2020, photographed by Molly Zaidman

Not only do I love this classic, buttery-colored skirt suit for a civil ceremony, but the story of their Pandemic-era romance and elopement is one for the ages. Also, the photography… there’s a reason it was featured in Vogue.

Yes – I am including myself in this list! I wore a pale baby blue and I still wouldn’t have it any other way.

And if you have a colored dress that needs altering or you want a colorful couture dress made – I would LOVE to help! Book your fitting and we’ll work some colorful magic.
